Castle: I was five years old. We were summering in the Hamptons. I was pretty much left to my own devices. This one day I was walking along the beach, I was miles from where I’d started. I was just about to turn back when I saw something had washed up on the beach I thought maybe it’s a whale or a turtle or a sea lion, so I ran over to see what it was.
Beckett: What was it?
Castle : It was a boy, my age. It was our housekeeper’s son. It must have just happened ‘cause the tide hadn’t washed away all the blood. We had just played hide and go seek just the day before.
Beckett: What happened to him?
Castle : They never found out.
Beckett: I’m so sorry Castle.
Beckett: You made that up?
Beckett: When I was a little girl, my parents rented a cabin by a lake, and one night I had to go to the bathroom…You know what? You’re just gonna think I’m crazy.
Castle: No, no, no! Go ahead. Tell me.
And on the way there, I heard this…voice whispering “Kate, Kate.” It was coming from this room that the owners had locked up and told my parents never to go in it. Except, that night there was this weird glow underneath the door, and then I heard the voice again, “Kate.” And so I walked up to the door, and this time it wasn’t locked. And I turned the door knob, and I opened it up, and then I saw it.
Castle: What was it? What did you see?
Castle: Ah-ha. Very funny.

Lest we forget, the following is pseudo canon from later that night:
I have recently read about actress and mathematician Hedy Lamarr. You should too. Among her feats:
- The invention of the frequency-hopping spread spectrum, a means of transmitting radio signals which is the basis of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology.
- Stealing a bunch of gold and diamond jewelry from her Nazi husband and and fleeing to Paris disguised as a French maid.
- Being the first actress to appear fully nude and depict an orgasm in a movie.
We should all learn about Hedy Lamarr in school.
In my 7th grade science class we did a little but they totally left out her being an actress (wtf?) but it was pretty awesome.
